Another New World Record on the Magic 5

Nicole Fedele sweeps her 'old' record by 30%

In her words: "On 19. August 2009 I was in Sorica (SLO) and my target was to improve on my previous female world record (129,4 km on 19. July 2009) so I planned to complete a 164 km out and return flight from Sorica to Piombada (a mountain located about 15 km west of Gemona) and back. I took off just some minutes after 10am and was with the very first pilots. Conditions were good especially in the second part of the flight and I had no problem to complete my pre-arranged route. When I arrived in Sorica I decided to fly some kilometers further and then back again to Sorica landing place while my friend Marco was walking to the takeoff to pick up our car. After 8 hours in the air and a fabulous 175 km flight I landed: my friends were already there waiting for me with a cool beer to drink to my success!!

Once again I could appreciate the great stability of my Airwave Magic 5 in every situation, enjoying its fantastic handling and superb performance."

World Record on MAGIC 5!

Congratulations to Nicole Fedele for her World Record flying an Airwave Magic 5!
On the 19th July Nicole established a new World Out and Return record of 129.4km from Sorica, Slovenia to Gemona in Italy beating the old world record by around 30%.
Nicole had received her Magic 5 only a few days before. When asked what she thought about her Magic 5 she said ‘The Magic5 is cool, it´s really very stable even on full bar and the handling is a dream.’

Airwave's new TANDEM

The TANDEM has received an LTF 1-2
This glider has a huge trim range as well as a large weight range, making this tandem the most versatile on the market. The huge trim range through positive and negative trimmer setting means that the tandem can both fly very fast as well as super slow. The LTF measured a top speed of 52km/h at the top weight of 220kg, and the glider still received an LTF1-2 even at this high speed and top end weight. Even at low speeds the TANDEM is amazingly versatile. At 130kg with trimmers full slow (this is usually not done!) the tandem still retained such good handling that it received the LTF1-2.

The wing is lighter than all previous Airwave tandems at just 8.6kg and is the best launching tandem we have ever made. The TANDEM is available in 3 colors.

THE MOST VERSATILE TANDEM ON THE MARKET

The Tandem is a state-of-the-art two seater paraglider for recreational and professional use. We’ve gone back to the drawing boardwith the Tandem design and created a whole new wing with new line layout and swept back tips for improved launch characteristics and a slightly higher aspect ratio than its predecessor to up the performance.

Design notes

One of the most important attributes that a professional tandem glider needs is consistently good launch characteristics. To achieve this we’ve changed the line layout to increase the number of suspended ribs. This means that the leading edge is loaded at more individual points than normal when forward launching ensuring a smooth, regular inflation. The resulting increase in lines has been offset by performance gains in
all other areas, and the extra longevity in launch characteristics make it well worthwhile.

Every flight ends with a landing. Flying other people around the sky and exposing them to our beautiful world is an immense responsibility and one thing we have to guarantee is that we can bring our passengers down safely. To that end, we have dedicated a large part of our development process to perfecting the landing characteristics of the Tandem. Feedback from professionals is that the Tandem has a highly effective flare and is one of the nicest gliders to land. Compared to the Scenic2, the Tandem is slightly smaller with a flat area of 41.5 sq m2. This is still larger than the average tandem but its larger surface area increases its performance, especially in sink rate.

The Tandem is certified with a massive weight range, 130 – 220 kg, and flies beautifully throughout the entire range. A trimmer system allows the pilot to adjust the handling and speed according to its payload. Professional Tandem pilots need no longer have two wings to cover all their passengers, or risk flying uninsured by carrying passengers that take them outside their glider’s certification.
